Our Team
Prof. Maciej Kowalewski
His researches are in the field of urban studies, protest politics and urban culture. He completed his Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Wrocław, where he also obtained his habilitation. As a visiting associate he conducted research, among others, at the London School of Economics (LSE Cities) and Hamburg University. He was a DAAD and Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) scholarship recipient. In 2021 he was awarded the West Pomeranian Prize in the field of the humanities.
Currently, he’s the Director of the Institute of Sociology at the University of Szczecin (since 2017) and a member of the Sociology Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the 2024–2027 term. Since 2022, he has also been the Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair for Social Sustainability at the University of Szczecin.
Dr. Jennifer Ramme
She specializes in research on social movements, particularly the politics of aesthetics and music cultures, memory and archiving of protests and social movements, as well as theories of resistance. Author and co-author of dozens of academic publications. She completed her doctoral studies at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany, where she also worked as a researcher, including at the Chair of European Studies. Currently, she is conducting the postdoctoral project „REBYOUTH – Rebellious Youth Movements and Alternative Music Cultures and Intersectional Critique in (Post)State Socialist Poland (1977 – 1995)” at the Faculty of Sociology at the University of Graz in Austria and the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. She is also a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Graz.
Dr. Izabela Kujawa
Her research focuses on various forms of migration governance, grassroots movements created by and for migrants and refugees, and the role of emotions in these areas. She completed her doctoral studies in social anthropology and her master’s degree in ethnolinguistics, both at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. She worked as a researcher in the Horizon 2020 project „Norms and Values in the European Migration and Refugee Crisis”. She has also received a Preludium grant from the National Science Centre of Poland, as well as research scholarships at Humboldt University in Berlin, Central European University in Budapest, and Shenzhen University. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Szczecin.
Dorota Jaśkiewicz, MA
She specializes in research on cultural participation, musical socialization, the activities of musical institutions and groups in the social space, and music professions and their role in society. She completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sociology at the University of Szczecin, as well as a bachelor’s degree in instrumental studies (double bass specialization) at the Academy of Art in Szczecin. As a sociologist-researcher and musician, she has participated in numerous national and international research and cultural projects, collaborating with various institutions. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD at the Doctoral School of the University of Szczecin in the discipline of sociological sciences, while also continuing her master’s studies in instrumental studies (double bass specialization) at the Academy of Art in Szczecin. She is actively involved in academic life as a member of the Doctoral School Council and the President of the Science Circle IKSDUS.
Katarzyna Kordas
She specializes in research on social movements, data analysis and statistics. She completed her bachelor’s degree in sociology at the University of Szczecin. She participated in the international project „Happiness Research Laboratory. Life After the Comfortocean”, where she collaborated in an interdisciplinary research team called „Porastanie”. She has several years of experience in market research** and has worked as a specialist in the Department of Didactic Organization**, gaining practical skills in data analysis and processing. Currently, she is pursuing a master’s degree in sociology while also studying psychology and business communication at the University of Szczecin. She is actively involved in academic life and serves as the secretary of the Student Council of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Kornelia Witkowska
She conducts research on culture and social movements, participated in a research project on local cultural potential of the Skolwin district in Szczecin. Kornelia studies sociology (BA) at the University of Szczecin. She is actively involved in university projects.
